What is "Up Lorry"?

"Up lorry" is a Singaporean slang directly translated from the Hokkien words ki(1) chia(1), meaning "to get on a vehicle." In the chinese context, ki chia refers to a person who has kicked the bucket and "got on the funeral car", a.k.a. "lorry".

As a slang, up lorry is used to describe an unfortunate event or a broken device. Typical usage examples:

"My office's Internet connection up lorry again!"
"Help! My PSP up lorry already!"
"Ah seng got into an accident and up lorry yesterday after struggling in the ICU for 3 days."
